Former NY-17 Democratic Congressional Candidate & Westchester County Legislator Catherine Borgia Endorses David Buchwald

Former County Legislator & Ossining Supervisor Richard Wishnie Also Announces Support For Buchwald

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Assemblymember David Buchwald, running for Congress in New York’s 17th Congressional District, was endorsed by former Democratic Congressional candidate and Westchester County Legislator Catherine Borgia. The endorsement from a former competitor builds on Buchwald’s growing support from across Westchester and Rockland counties, a coalition of more than 50 allies in labor, Democratic committees, and local leaders.

“David Buchwald is the best person to represent us in Congress,” said Borgia. “I have known David for many years, and I’ve seen firsthand how hard he works for everyone in our communities and how he advocates for us on the issues that are critical to the Lower Hudson Valley. I am proud to stand with David and support his run for Congress. We deserve a representative in Washington who is ready on day one — David Buchwald is that person. Please join me in supporting him as our next Member of Congress.”

On the Westchester County Legislature, Borgia represents Ossining, Briarcliff, Croton, parts of the Town of Cortlandt and the City of Peekskill. She previously served as Town Supervisor of Ossining and on the Ossining Village Board. She worked for seven years as Chief of Staff to New York State Assemblymember Sandy Galef.

“Catherine Borgia is a fearless advocate and strong leader in Westchester,” said Buchwald. “I’m proud and humbled to have earned her support in this race to represent residents of Rockland and Westchester Counties in Congress. This campaign is building a broad coalition that is focused on bringing people together. Catherine Borgia’s support shows how the momentum behind our campaign continues to grow. Democrats like Legislator Borgia want a Congressmember who will fight for families across the Lower Hudson Valley.”

In addition, the Buchwald campaign today announced the endorsement of former Westchester County Legislator and Ossining Town Supervisor Richard Wishnie. Wishnie is a well-respected dean of the Democratic Party in Westchester, and is a 58-year member of IBEW Local 3.

Borgia’s endorsement is the latest in a growing list of individuals and groups to back Buchwald. Not only is Assemblymember Buchwald the only Democratic candidate to have received the endorsement of any local Democratic Committee -- Harrison, Mount Kisco, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Castle, White Plains, and Yorktown -- he was also given the approval of the Greenburgh and Rye Town Democratic Committees. Buchwald is also the only Democratic candidate to have received endorsements from Westchester County Legislators -- Borgia, Board Chairman Ben Boykin (D-White Plains) and Legislator Colin Smith (D-Peekskill). They are joined by Westchester County Clerk Tim Idoni and over 40 other current and former elected officials in Westchester. Buchwald also has the endorsement of the Communications Workers of America (District 1, Local 1103, and Local 1107) and the Fifth District of the New York State Professional Firefighters Association.

Raised in Westchester, Buchwald is in his fourth term as a member of the New York State Assembly and has passed 70 pieces of legislation that have become law. Last year, Assemblymember Buchwald introduced and passed the New York TRUST Act, which enables the U.S. Congress to request the New York State tax returns of top government officials -- a law which Donald Trump is now suing to block. Previously, he served on the White Plains Common Council, worked as an economics researcher on antitrust issues, and practiced tax law in New York.
